"I am in Malawi to check on the children's hospital in Blantyre and my other work with Raising Malawi, and then heading home", Madonna said in a statement obtained by the Associated Press.

Malawi government spokesman Mlenga Mvula told the outlet that Madonna appeared before a High Court judge on Wednesday and that the singer must wait a week before the court will decide whether to grant the adoption order based on her filing.

Singer Madonna has appeared in court to apply for the adoption of two children in Malawi. She visited the project last summer - and took David and Mercy to visit their former orphanages. "The rumors of an adoption process are untrue".

Bank robber says rather be in jail that with wife
An FBI agent says Ripple had argued with his wife earlier and told her in writing he'd 'rather be in jail than at home'. After the teller gave him £2,924 (£2,344), Ripple then sat in the bank lobby and waited for officers to arrive.

The pop icon filed paperwork in hopes of adopting a pair of kids from Malawi - where her son David Banda and daughter Mercy James are originally from.

Madonna's charity Raising Malawi is building the country's first pediatric hospital.

The controversy also led Malawi's government to review its laws governing adoption from overseas to "make sure they serve the best interests of the children", a Malawian government source told the Guardian.

Russia, Jordan affirm support to Syria's sovereignty
He said all sides agreed there is no opportunity to solve the Syrian crisis through military means. He added, however, that only time can show the feasibility of the Astana process.

Madonna explained her decision to become an adoptive parent in an article for Harper's Bazaar in 2013.

But Banda was ousted in 2014 elections and the new president Peter Mutharika moved to fix relations, saying "my government has always been grateful for the passion Madonna has for this country".

The singer, who divorced film director Guy Ritchie in 2008, reportedly landed in Malawi by private jet and was staying at a exclusive lodge outside Lilongwe.
