Al-Shabaab overruns Kenyan military base in Somalia

Raila Odinga HEARTFELT message after the Al Shabaab attack on KDF base

Reports indicate at least 70 al Shabaab militants and over 68 KDF soldiers were killed in the attack despite conflicting reports from the military.

The Lower Juba region of Somalia, where the attack occurred, is not easily accessible, unlike the capital, Mogadishu, where the Shabab carried out attacks just this week.

Abdiaziz Abu Musab, a spokesman for the Shabab, said in a statement: "Our fighters overran the base and confiscated military vehicles and equipments during the raid".

On 15 January 2016, al-Shabaab attacked a Kenya Defence Forces' base in El-ade, in the Gedo region, and claimed to have killed over 100 soldiers.

British PM splits from Trump on Russia sanctions
The spokesman made the remarks after a TV interview where Trump said he supports the torture of terror suspects. May also says she extended an invitation to visit England on behalf of the queen and that Trump has accepted.

Al-Shabab said it lost fighters but did not give numbers.

The Kenyan Defence Ministry countered with a statement that "information being peddled by terrorists ... is false and part of their propaganda".

The Kenyan military never gave details of casualties, but Kenya media reports suggested a toll of that magnitude.

"We wish to express our deepest condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, their relatives and friends following this loss", he said. He added that they "seized control of the base and the entire area of Kulbiyow after they killed the Kenyan infidels".

New Parasitic Wasp Species Discovered In Southern US
To reproduce, the gall wasp manipulates the physical characteristics of its tree host, the sand live oak, hollowing out its stems. This is not that common, though some fungi can turn ants into zombies, or hairworms that force crickets to jump into the water.

Somalia, which has been in varying states of violent chaos since a longtime dictator was overthrown in 1991, is the site of a clandestine American-backed war involving Special Operations troops, airstrikes, private contractors and African allies.

Al-Shabaab has often launched attacks on troops of the African Union forces mostly made up of soldiers from Kenya, Djibouti, Uganda, Ethiopia and other African countries.

Earlier this month, the country marked the first anniversary of the deadly attack in Somalia where almost 150 soldiers were killed.

Over the last two years Shabaab has rampaged through bases manned by Burundian soldiers in Lego, Ugandan troops in Janale and the Kenyans in El-Adde, inflicting high casualties and stealing military equipment each time.
