49ers to introduce new head coach Kyle Shanahan today

HOUSTON TX- FEBRUARY 01 Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan of the Atlanta Falcons speaks with the media during a Super Bowl LI press conference

Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan may be eyeing a coach on the opposite sideline Sunday to join him in San Francisco.

But Shanahan actually arrived in the Bay Area on Wednesday afternoon, as the team and its public relations staff tweeted his plane landing. The deal is expected to run for six years, matching the contract the 49ers gave new general manager John Lynch.

"It is truly an honor to be named head coach of the San Francisco 49ers", Shanahan said.

The two mended ties a year ago after Turkey shot down a Russian fighter jet near the Turkey-Syrian border in November 2015. Turkey's media also reported about the Turkish servicemen wounded during the fighting, but their number is not disclosed.

"People have won in this league being pure throwers, making ev ery throw in the pocket", Shanahan said. And while you can never take away any Super Bowl trophies, Shanahan in his time in Denver had John Elway.

What's missing from that discussion (and still is, really) is what exactly new coach Kyle Shanahan wants in his franchise signal-caller. Shanahan was the mastermind behind one of the best offenses in the National Football League last season with the Atlanta Falcons, but his tenure ended on an extremely sour note as the Falcons blew a 25-point lead in the Super Bowl. Shanahan was asked if it was accurate that he said "I blew it" in reference to his play calling after the game. "Everyone knows how important that position is, but we certainly place a huge emphasis on it and we're going to work hard to get that right".

"That's the way we wanted it, that's the way we wanted it reflected", Lynch said. The game also looked like a rout in the third quarter, and some 4 million viewers slipped away around the time the Falcons took at 28-3 lead, Nielsen said.

Smith also says the vacancy caused by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia almost one year ago should have been filled long ago. Republicans declined to hold a hearing or a vote on Garland, saying the new president should get to pick the next justice.

Their win total has decreased in each of the last three seasons, capped off by a 2-14 mark a year ago, their worst since 2004.

Just 386 days after they had an introductory news conference for Chip Kelly, and 756 days after they ushered in the Jim Tomsula era, the 49ers rolled out the red carpet Thursday for their Next New Guy, Kyle Shanahan.

"I think there was a stat that I saw recently, where on the AFC side, 14 of the last 16 Super Bowls have been [Tom] Brady, [Peyton] Manning, then Ben Roethlisberger had a couple in there".

San Francisco has been linked to Kirk Cousins (who has Shanahan ties), but it would be a shock if Washington let him leave.
