World Cup Preparation Is Costing Qatar $500 Million Per Week

While the global fluctuation of energy prices has effected Qatar recently, the country with the world's third-largest collection of natural gas and oil reserves is spending lavishly to overhaul its entire infrastructure for the event.

More than US$200 billion (€187 billion) will be spent in total in preparation for 2022.

The 2014 World Cup in Brazil is reported to have cost $11bn (£8.8bn) to host, while Russian Federation increased government spending on the 2018 World Cup by $321m to $10.7bn.

He said that spending could go on until a year before the tournament.

Phil Jackson's pressure on Knicks' Carmelo Anthony backfiring
Adding Anthony and Bradley (despite moving on from Griffin) would balance the Clippers roster and change up the status quo in L.A. Anthony, a 13-year veteran, has a no-trade clause and would have to agree to waive that clause before a trade could be completed.

Qatar is spending nearly $500 million (about N250 billion) a week on major infrastructure projects as it prepares for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, its Minister of Finance, Ali al-Emadi, has said.

At the same time, the impetus for the rapid development of the infrastructure is the 2022 World Cup. Russia, the host of the 2018 World Cup, could end up spending around the same as Brazil.

12 stadiums were originally set to host matches for the 2022 event, nine of which needing to be built, including the 86,000 capacity Lusail Iconic Stadium which will host the opening game and the final.

The World Cup in Qatar is still another five and a half years away, but the amount of work they plan to do and the money they plan to spend - all just for the one-month tournament - is certainly unprecedented and stunning.

The spokeswoman said Mrs May and Mr Netanyahu also discussed co-operation on cyber-security, innovation and technology. Iran fired a ballistic missile last week. "The prime minister reiterated the UK's opposition to settlement activity".

Brazil's Maracaña stadium got a face-lift before the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics.

Of the projects planned, the contracts for 90 percent of them have been awarded, he added.

However, human rights groups have said the workers have been exploited and forced to work under unsafe conditions. The expansion means 16 more teams will have the chance to qualify for the World Cup.
