Caster Semenya will have to wait for unexpected Olympic gold

The Russian runner has been stripped of her Olympic gold medal from the 2012 London Games, Savinova-Farnosova has also had a world title and two other medals annulled.

The Russian Olympic Committee continues the work to have Russian athletes with positive doping probes return Olympic medals, the Committee's President Alexander Zhukov told reporters on February 11.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport said in a statement Friday that the Russian champion middle-distance runner, identified as Mariya Savinova-Farnosova, was found to be involved in doping from July 26, 2010, through August 19, 2013.

Semenya, who won the event at the Rio 2016 Olympics after being cleared to compete in 2010 following a gender test row, is set to be crowned as a double Olympic and world champion.

"Savinova has the right to appeal the decision", said IAAF communications manager Yannis Nikolaou.

Mariya Savinova has been banned from athletics until 2019 after she was found guilty of doping for over three years.

It took the action as the decision-making authority while Russia's athletics federation remains banned over the country's state-backed doping scandal.

Savinova-Farnosova, 31, won the 800-meter title ahead of South Africa's Caster Semenya.
