SpaceX cargo craft fails to dock with space station, will try again

Fifth Crop Harvested Aboard the International Space Station

An unmanned cargo ship packed with food and supplies for astronauts arrived safely at the International Space Station yesterday, a day after SpaceX aborted the process due to a Global Positioning System problem.

SpaceX has suffered two major failures in the last two years - a June 2015 supply mission that exploded minutes after launch, and a rocket that exploded during fueling on the launch pad at the Kennedy Space Center in September.

Dragon is in excellent shape and neither the crew nor the station were in any danger, the U.S. space agency assured. "The next rendezvous attempt is targeted for Thursday morning".

Survey reveals record number of manatees spotted in Florida waters
Attempting to spot manatees for the count can be hard , since they only surface every five minutes or so to breathe. Is the manatee ready for that kind of flexibility? The future is looking up for Florida's manatee population.

The mission should launch a Falcon Heavy rocket (capable of carrying up to one ton of payload) carrying a modified Red Dragon V2 capsule hosting the Mars Ascent Vehicle (MAV), hardware, and the Earth Return Vehicle (ERV).

SpaceX launched a cargo pod into space - but it couldn't reach its target. SpaceX officials say they will attempt to dock again Thursday.

This is SpaceX's first mission from the Kennedy Space Center since one of its rockets blew up previous year.

Dragon is carrying more than 5,000 pounds (2268 kg) supplies and payloads, including critical materials to support dozens of science and research investigations that are planned to occur during Expeditions 50 and 51, according to a release from SpaceX.

The capsule, which was successfully launched into space on Sunday, was due to hook up with the orbiting science lab on Wednesday morning. If successful, astronauts Shane Kimbrough of NASA and Thomas Pesquet of the European Space Agency would have locked hatches with the SpaceX capsule using an onboard robotic arm. The space flyers will also explore the area around while flying.

The station, a $100 billion project of 15 nations, expects another cargo delivery from a Russian Progress ship, launched a day ago from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, with docking at 3:34 a.m. EST on Friday.
