Sindhu beats Marin to lift India Open badminton title

PV Sindhu to clash with Sung Ji Hyun in semi-final of India Open

Third seed PV Sindhu won the Yonex Sunrise India Open super series by beating top seed Carolina Marin 21-19 21-16 in the finals. The win gave Sindhu her first India Open title and second Superseries title after the China Open past year.

This is how cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar congratulated PV Sindhu on her triumph against Marin. There were no easy points, there were long rallies.

Although the Spanish shuttler gave a neck-to-neck competition in the first game, she appeared nervous in the end. In a much-anticipated match of the evening, a replay of Rio Olympics title showdown, the star Indian shuttler came out with a goal and looked determined for a revenge.

His attack initially killed Cochran and two British nationals, and injured dozens of others, at least one of whom has since died. She told the court: "I take a moment to pass my sympathies to the family of Masood, who are also all victims of this incident".

Sindhu took the early lead in both games and the Spaniard was always chasing her. Marin bridged that gap in the first game - taking a 19-18 lead at one stage - but the Indian reeled off three straight points to claim that game.

Hello and welcome to the live coverage of women's final of India Open Super Series Badminton tournament. With this she also moves to no.2 in the BWF Women's singles rankings.

After winning a closely contested first game, Sung found her feet in the second game to easily win several points and push the match into the decider. Sindhu had to settle for silver after being defeated by Marin then. She is not giving much chance for Sindhu to hit her favourite smashes, but the Indian has been strong in the front court too, as she leads 10-7. On the other hand, the reigning Olympic champion needed just 40 minutes to decimate in-form Japanese teen Akane Yamaguchi 21-16, 21-14 to set up a title clash with Sindhu, whom she had defeated in the final of last year's Rio Games.

White House invites lawmakers to see intelligence material
On Tuesday, Nunes declined to say if the White House had asked him to cancel the hearing. House Speaker Paul Ryan is continuing to back Nunes.

Marin, in contrast, hasn't won a title since her Olympic glory. This match, I feel, could go to the wire.

This brings up a repeat of last year's men's doubles final and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon / Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo have beaten Suwardi/Pratama twice since then. All England winners Lu/Huang saw their opponents retire injured from the quarter-final at match point but won a complete match with complete domination of England's Chris and Gabrielle Adcock.
