Malegaon, four other cities in Maharashtra among ten hottest places in India

Not just Bhira temperature soar in cities across Maharashtra

The Met Department in Telangana has said that every district of the state will witness a temperature of over 40 degrees for the next two days.

Districts in central and north Maharashtra are worst affected.

According to the weather office, Anantapuramu, Kadapa and Kurnool in Rayalaseema have been registering temperature of around 40 degree Celsius.

While Akola town in Maharashtra recorded 44.1 degree Celsius, Barmer in Rajasthan recorded a temperature of 43.4 degrees Celsius and Narnaul in Haryana sizzled at 42 degrees Celsius. It is the hottest day of the year yet in Delhi, with the temperature six degrees above normal at 38.2 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, because of its high temperature, Bhira became the second hottest place in the world.

Heat wave warnings have been issued for Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, madhya Maharashtra, south UP, south Haryana, Chandigarh and interior Odisha.

Many other parts of India are suffering record temperatures at the start of summer.

"Though the temperatures were high, it does not satisfy the technical conditions of a heat wave".

On Tuesday, Bhira village in Raigad district, adjoining Mumbai notched a staggering 47 degrees Celsius, more than 7 degrees Celsius above normal, but IMD officials suspect a glitch in the temperature recording instruments.

Known by a number of other aliases, he had not been convicted previously for any terrorism offences, they added. The twisted terrorist killed four people and wounded at least 30 before he was shot to death by police.

The extreme temperature, perhaps the highest in the country, is quite unusual for a place like Bhira that never crosses the 45 degree Celsius mark.

The Indian Meteorological Department, in its March 27 press release, had warned of heat wave conditions and had said that the "spatial coverage of heat wave (was) very likely to expand further over north Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Vidarbha during the same period". On Monday, mercury in Ahmedabad had touched 42.8 degrees breaking seven-year record for the month of March.

First time in two decades that such high temperatures have been recorded in the coastal region in February, say weather experts. The temperature is now at 37 degrees, five degrees more than normal for this time of the year. The cities have set up cool-air shelters for people working in the sun all day, such as construction workers and traffic police, to rest during the hottest afternoon hours. Uttarakhand capital Dehradun registered 35.8 degree Celsius.
