Misbah announces retirement from Test cricket

Sports Round Up

Pakistan's Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq today announced his retirement from global cricket, saying the upcoming series in the West Indies will be his last assignment.

Pakistan Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq has confirmed that he walk away from worldwide cricket after the upcoming three-Test series against the West Indies.

Khan told the media in Lahore that the Test series in West Indies will be the last for Misbah.

"I believe that if I put in more hard work, I will definitely get more rewards in worldwide cricket, " Shadab said.

Ahmed said non-sub-continental teams do struggle against leg-spinners and Pakistan should take advantage of it in the upcoming one-day and test series against the West Indies. He transformed the Pakistan test team into world-beaters, especially on slow wickets in the United Arab Emirates, which has been Pakistan's "home" venue since 2009.

The Pakistani team celebrates Misbah's 50th match as Test captain.

The top order batsman also played 162 One-day internationals and 39 Twenty20 internationals before retiring from the limited-over formats after the 2015 ODI World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) said the conclusion of the agreement for West Indies series is a major achievement. However, the curtains will be down after the three-Test series against West Indies in their own den, starting April 21.

"I think I performed a lot better in this series than I have in the recent past but it doesn't mean that all of a sudden I am a world beater", he stressed.

"He is an interesting player to coach and I have said this before as well, that for an 18-year-old-kid he has the head of a 30-year-old on him".

"If I perform well and the team doesn't do as well, then it puts a damper on my personal performance and my spirit going forward".

The series could be a farewell for captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who turns 43 next month. You get disappointed a bit with your failures but you don't give up.

Reiterating the importance of the West Indies tour, Misbah said the team strives to win every match it plays and praised his side's Test batting line-up.

Pakistan continued to surge in Tests and in 2016, they secured a 2-2 draw against England and they were crowned the new World No.1 in Tests.

"Form is one thing but determination and the way these boys go about their cricket, we understand now it's not going to be easy", the Australian said here.
