Suspected Isis recruiters arrested in St Petersburg in wake of metro attack

With St. Petersburg residents tense following the deadly subway bombing, the collapse of part of apartment building Thursday triggered fears of a new attack until city authorities explained the cause.

Investigators have not said whether the six had any links to Monday's attack, which authorities said was carried out by a Russian citizen of Kyrgyz origin, identified as Akbarzhon Jalilov.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, which came while President Vladimir Putin was visiting the city, Russia's second biggest and Putin's hometown.

The Investigative Committee said that the suspects are all from the former Soviet Central Asia region of Kyrgyzstan, as was suspected suicide bomber, 22-year-old Akbarzhon Dzhalilov.

Kyrgyz Intelligence notified Russian authorities that at least one of the terrorists involved in the Saint Petersburg metro explosion was born in Kyrgyzstan.

Monday's explosion occurred as the train travelled between stations on one of the city's north-south lines.

Another bomb, hidden in a bag, was found and de-activated at another St. Petersburg station just half an hour before the blast. It has a tradition of Islamist radicalism and hundreds of people have set out from the area to join Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.

Jalilov's parents, who say they had not seen their son for a while, were due to fly into St Petersburg on Wednesday and a witness at Pulkovo airport reported heavy security.

Fox has "treated women very badly", Waters said, adding that she supported a criminal investigation of the matter. The Fox News host, whose show has been abandoned by dozens of advertisers , hasn't admitted any wrongdoing.

Four stations on the subway were closed again Tuesday due to a bomb threat, but later reopened. The report said Russian investigators were trying to determine Dzhalilov's travels, but they had ascertained that the device used in the subway attack bore the hallmarks of "Syrian know-how", specifically traces of burnt sugar. "The recent tragic events in St. Petersburg are the best confirmation of this", Putin said at the meeting in Moscow.

It was unclear whether the attack was a suicide bombing or whether the bomber got away.

A memorial action will also take place in the Russian capital, Moscow, on Thursday afternoon in Manezhnaya Square.

The White House said in a April 3 statement that Trump's discussion with Putin was focused on "terrorism".
