Russian Federation vetoes United Nations resolution to condemn Syria chemical attack

CNN uses anonymous source to push Syria Russia 'chemical attack' conspiracy

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad said a suspected chemical weapons attack was a "fabrication" to justify a U.S. strike on his forces, in an exclusive interview with AFP in Damascus.

Until the chemical attack, the Trump administration had sought to step back from the USA position that Assad should leave power. "In order to overcome such obstacles we will need to imply weighty efforts on condition that our USA colleagues will meet them". Russian Federation had suspended that effort after USA missile strikes on a Syrian air base following an April 4 chemical weapons attack on a village in rebel territory.

Syria's government has denied responsibility for the gas attack that killed at least 87 people, many of whom were children.

Russian Federation effectively hid from public view the hit that the Kremlin took to its standing in the region because of the chemical weapons attack, presumably by Assad.

The interview on Wednesday was his first since a suspected chemical weapons attack that killed dozens of civilians in the rebel-held town of Khan Sheikhun.

The ministers "will discuss measures needed to coordinate trilateral steps, so as not to let the situation aggravate and the efforts for a political settlement in Syria be derailed amid the US' armed aggression against Damascus", she said. "Were they dead at all?"

Russian Federation has seen no proof that Syria carried out the chemical-weapons attack and wants a United Nations investigation to establish the facts, said Lavrov.

She said that in light of that deal, the Idlib attack was "very embarrasing" for the Russians.

But he said his forces had not been diminished by the USA strike.

"Our firepower, our ability to attack the terrorists hasn't been affected by this strike".

Haley, prior to the chemical attack, had said, "Our priority is no longer to sit there and focus on getting Assad out".

It was the first direct USA military action against Assad's forces since the start of Syria's civil war six years ago and led to a quick downward spiral in ties between Washington and Moscow.

Washington is leading a campaign of air strikes in Syria against Islamic State fighters and has backed rebels fighting against Assad during a six-year civil war, but until last week the United States had avoided directly targeting the Syrian government. "I think it's very bad for mankind".

"Right now we're not getting along with Russian Federation at all", Trump flatly declared at a White House press conference on Wednesday, giving stark proof the president is moving ever further from his 2016 campaign promise to establish better ties with Moscow.

At the White House press conference, Trump, who has repeatedly questioned NATO's objective, also said the Western military alliance is "no longer obsolete".

US intelligence agencies have said Russian Federation hacked Democratic Party emails and leaked them in an effort to damage the campaign of Democrat Hillary Clinton and ultimately to help Trump win.

"Even if we have them, we wouldn't use them, and we have never used our chemical arsenal in our history".

Others said the statements should clear up any doubts about U.S. -Russia relations.

Tillerson gave a similar assessment during an earlier press conference with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, after meeting at the Kremlin with Vladimir Putin for almost two hours. Interestingly enough, in the same press conference where Trump said relations were poor, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg addressed the comparison.

Mr Lavrov blasted USA claims that it has "irrefutable evidence" of election interference.

Meanwhile, Russia vetoes a United Nations resolution Wednesday condemning the reported use of the chemical weapons attack in Syria and urging a speedy investigation.

Photo taken on April 12, 2017, shows Vladimir Safronkov (C, front), Russian deputy ambassador to the United Nations, vetoes a Security Council draft resolution on Chemical Attack in Syria, at the UN headquarters in NY. China opted to abstain, a move Trump praised.

More than 80 people were killed in what the USA has described as a nerve gas attack that Assad's forces undoubtedly carried out. "The talks turned out to be frank and extensive, we covered the entire range of key issues concerning our bilateral relations and cooperation on the global level".
