Microsoft built a watch that calmed woman's Parkinson's tremors

Microsoft's Emma Watch is a game-changer for people with Parkinson's

The demo was shared at the company's Build 2017 developer conference along with a number of announcements for cloud computing, Visual Studio for Mac, Intelligent Cloud for IoT devices and more.

After a speech that both heralded and warned about coming leaps in technological power, Nadella screened video that told the story of two British Microsoft researches, Haiyan Zhang and Nicolas Villa, who made a decision to launch and independent project to create a tremor-eliminating device for a BBC documentary, The Big Life Fix. Lawton was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2013.

When the lights went up, Nadella welcomed both Watson and engineer Zhang on stage, thanking them for showing that thanks "developers can have impact". This disease makes it impossible for her to draw straight lines or write legibly.

Microsoft's Emma Watch is a game-changer for people with Parkinson's

The watch enabled Emma to write her own name again - an extraordinary and emotional moment captured in Microsoft's video, shown below.

The shaking makes it nearly impossible for Emma Lawton, who is a graphic designer, to draw straight lines or write clearly. "The goal of further research is to determine whether Emma Watch could help other people with similar Parkinson's symptoms".

The watch works through a combination of sensors and A.I.techniques to potentially detect and monitor symptoms like tremors, stiffness and instability, among others.

Colbert has good week in ratings despite controversy
Does Stewart miss being on TV? All five of the former Daily Show correspondents have found success post-Daily Show . Why? Well first of all, the entire hullabaloo turned out to be largely drummed up by right-wing provocateurs .

Having previously created cutlery for disabled people that reacts to their movements to avoid spilling food, Zhang used that as a starting point.

The Emma Watch sends small vibrations through a wearer's wrist that can stop the shaking experienced by those with the neurological disease. That creates tremors. The vibrations from the watch seem to cause Lawton's brain to focus on her right wrist, apparently reducing the brain's messages to that spot. So, the wearable is also connected to a Windows 10 tablet that has an app for controlling vibration speed. The writing, it's not going to be flawless.

Microsoft has invented a wristband that could help stem the tremors caused by Parkinson's Disease.

U.S. defense chief affirms commitment to protecting Turkey
Weapons supplied to the YPG have in the past fallen into PKK hands, said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. Turkish warplanes attacked Kurdish YPG fighters in northeastern Syria and Iraq's Sinjar region late last month.

Encouraged by the success, Zhang has partnered with a neuroscience team in London to set up trails for the device.

So how are people reacting to the Emma watch story?
