UN Security Council condemns North Korea missile test

M - North Korea said on Monday it had successfully conducted a mid- to-long-range missile test and would continue such launches "any time, any place", defying UN Security Council resolutions and warnings from the United States, Reuters reported.

North Korea's missile test on Sunday was the country's most successful yet, according to analysts, who say Pyongyang may now have a weapon capable of hitting a key USA military base in the Pacific.

The Korean Central News Agency has called North Korea's new missile a "ground to ground medium to long-range ballistic missile".

Last month, Russian Federation and China backed a United Nations Security Council resolution condemning a previous missile launch, demanding that it "immediately" cease further actions that violate resolutions.

Each new nuclear and longer-range missile test is part of the North's attempt to build a nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missile.

The Security Council first imposed sanctions on North Korea in 2006 and has stiffened them in response to its five nuclear tests and two long-range rocket launches.

Claiming that it was possible to hack the machines, Sisodia said EVM-tampering tantamounts to a "conspiracy to murder democracy". Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accused the Election Commission of India of "backing off" on the hackathon.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in slammed the latest missile test as a "reckless provocation".

North Korea, however, thus far has not displayed the capability to produce a nuclear warhead sufficiently compact to fly on its missiles.

North Korea is banned from any rocket launch by the United Nations but it ignores that.

On Sunday, North Korea test-launched a ballistic missile that flew, at a high trajectory, about 435 miles, according to South Korea's military. Outsiders also saw a significant technological jump, with the test-fire apparently flying higher and for a longer time period than any other such previous missile.

The US says its "strategic patience" with North Korea is over, even hinting at a pre-emptive strike.

For North Korea to accomplish that feat would require a missile with a range of 8,000 km (4,800 miles) or more, plus the technology to allow a warhead's stable re-entry into the atmosphere.

Kim Jong Un was paraphrased as saying that the flawless weapon system was not the exclusive property of the United States and he warned that the USA should not underestimate the strength of North Korea's weapon capability, reports ABC News.

The council adopted two sanctions resolutions a year ago to ramp up pressure on Pyongyang and deny leader Kim Jong-Un the hard currency needed to fund his military programs.

Nikki Haley, the USA ambassador to the United Nations, told ABC's "This Week" that "having a missile test is not the way to sit down with the president, because he's absolutely not going to do it".

In recent years, North Korea successfully put satellites into orbit twice aboard long-range rockets in what the United Nations called a disguised test of long-range missile technology. North Korea on Monday, May 1.

North Korea has carried out a number of missile launches and nuclear tests in recent months, all of which are considered to be in violation with the UN Security Council resolution.

A series of pictures published by the hermit state's media showed Jong-Un gazing at the missile in a hangar before the launch.
