Hamilton takes the victory at the 2017 Spanish Grand Prix

Hamilton bags 4th straight Spain pole

"I could sense he was angry, he said he was angry", said Hamilton. With Bottas holding down Vettel for a few laps, Hamilton was able to close the gap and eventually pounce.

On an afternoon that saw the two multiple world champions in a battle of their own with the rest so far behind they might as well have been in another race, Australian Ricciardo was the only other driver not lapped as his Red Bull vehicle finished 75.8 seconds behind the victor.

Hamilton and Vettel have now claimed two wins each in 2017, with Valtteri Bottas also winning his maiden F1 race in Russian Federation, which sees the Ferrari driver leading by just six points from the Brit in the world drivers' championship standings.

The Dutchman was on the outside when Kimi Raikkonen and Valtteri Bottas collided heading into Turn 1, with the Ferrari driver bouncing off the Mercedes and into Verstappen's Red Bull auto, eliminating both with suspension damage.

That is until Stoffel Vandoorne beached his McLaren in the gravel after contact with Felipe Massa.

America's Cup qualifiers off to smashing start in Bermuda
But with their towering fixed-wing sails, speed and agility, this year's craft promise another sensational spectacle. For the first time the defending champions are competing in the qualifiers, and Team USA didn't disappoint.

Leigh Diffey, David Hobbs and Steve Matchett will be on the call, with pit reporter Will Buxton on the ground in Barcelona providing updates and interviews throughout the race.

Ferrari responded by pitting Vettel for the final time a lap later and as he came out Hamilton was pounding down the pit straight.

"This is what the sport needs to have at every single race, and this is why I race, and what got me into racing in the beginning".

The first round of pit stops were fascinating. On lap 35 Vettel pulled an aggressive move to pass Bottas by running onto the grass at Turn 1.

Sebastian Vettel feels his rivalry with Lewis Hamilton is so amicable both on and off track is down to their "common passion" of pure racing.

Erdogan seeks to sway Trump in crunch US talks
Of course that's a tactical alliance; no one in the USA government has ever indicated otherwise. Erdogan's next move could be to cancel his Washington visit in light of the YPG arms move.

With Bottas and Raikkonen failing to finish in Barcelona, Force India took full advantage.

The pair touched wheels on lap 38 of 66 at the Circuit de Catalunya as Ferrari's Vettel exited the pits and managed to prevent Hamilton taking the lead. Vettel was called in first by Ferrari, with Mercedes expected to follow. He then nursed the ageing set of tyres to finish around 3.5 seconds ahead of the Ferrari.

Nevertheless, third was the best Red Bull could have hoped for and Ricciardo knew early on it was going to be a lonely afternoon. Bottas retired from the race on lap 39 due to a powertrain failure. Sergio Perez finished fourth, while Esteban Ocon went fifth. Haas' Roman Grosjean finished tenth, thus completing the points table for the Spanish GP.

Much of the talk ahead of the race was centred on the respective upgrades brought in by the two leading constructors, but it was the driving and strategy that will provide the lasting impression.
