Police Say 'Road Rage' Led To Murder Of Muslim Girl In Virginia

Muslim girl abducted outside US mosque found murdered in Virginia

An autopsy was being conducted on a body pulled from a pond in Loudon County that detectives believe to be that of the 17-year-old Reston girl who disappeared on Sunday, police said.

The suspect, 22-year-old Darwin Martinez Torres, drove up onto a curb and the group scattered, Parker said.

Authorities later found her body in a pond.

Police are not now investigating the murder as a hate crime.

Police blamed "road rage" on Monday for the killing of a teenage Muslim girl who was attacked by a driver while walking with friends to her mosque between Ramadan prayers this weekend.

After a late-night trip to McDonald's, Hassanen and her friends were heading back to the mosque where they had been observing Ramadan early on Sunday when a man in a beat-up red auto came up behind them.

"There is a suppression of information going on at this WH that would not be tolerated at a city council mtg or press con with a state gov", Acosta wrote on Twitter.

Darwin Martinez Torres, 22, was charged with murder on Monday following the Sunday death of Hassanen.

Officers said that Torres - who is an undocumented immigrant in the US, BuzzFeed News has learned - caught up with the fleeing teens in a parking lot, got out of his vehicle, and chased them with a baseball bat.

"He killed her because she's a Muslim - this is what I tell the detective", Hassanen told the Washington Post.

A chaplain at the mosque where a slain teen worshipped says members have faith in the police investigation of the fatal attack. "It appears the suspect became so enraged over the traffic dispute it escalated into deadly violence".

"I just feel like there is more hesitation and a lot of other factors are taken into account", such as whether the person was drunk or suffering mental problems, Chaudry said in an interview. He has been assigned a public defender. He could get up to 40 years in prison if convicted on the murder charge.

"Nothing indicates that this was motivated by race or by religion". Why, when my daughter fell down, why did he hit her?

McIlroy hits back after accused of being 'bored' by Elkington
Pro golfer Steve Elkington tweeted that Rory McIlroy must be "so bored playing golf " since Tiger Woods isn't now playing. Or, according to Champions Tour player and 1995 PGA Championship victor Steve Elkington, he's just bored.

A neighbor, who also refused to give her name, said in Spanish that Torres had been living there for at least two years and that he and his wife had a 4-year-old daughter.

A statement by Madihha Ahussain, special counsel for anti-Muslim bigotry at Muslim Advocates, a national legal and educational organization for American Muslims, said the tragedy occurring on Father's Day and during the holy month of Ramadan, "strikes the heart of the strong community of the ADAMS Center and of Fairfax".

The mosque expressed optimism that law enforcement will determine what motivated the crime and added: "We request the community to not speculate on the motives and jump to conclusions".

ICE said it has no record of Torres before his arrest, indicating that he never had any legal status in the United States and that he entered the country illegally. ADAMS is one of the largest mosques in the country and is particularly busy during Ramadan.

On Monday, British authorities charged a man with terrorism after he allegedly plowed his van into Muslim worshippers outside a London mosque, injuring at least nine people. As an example, he points out the attack in Portland last month that ended with the stabbing death of two men who tried to intervene when a man was harassing two Muslim girls. In Virginia, neither police nor witnesses interviewed by The Associated Press said they saw anything to make them think the teenagers were targeted over their religion. Police have described it as a road rage incident and say there's no evidence to suggest it was a hate crime. "We must come together to send an opposing message that all people, regardless of their religious or ethnic background, are safe, welcome and protected".

Al-Jazeera likewise admitted police were not investigating the crime as a hate crime before writing in bold print, "Surge in hate crimes", and claiming, "Anti-Muslim hate crimes have surged in recent years".

Spicer had said that Ruddy was at the White House Monday to meet with White House aides, but did not speak with the president. Trump, Ruddy said, "was looking at [Mueller] potentially to become the next Federal Bureau of Investigation director".

"The media is only interested in these stories insofar as they fit their propaganda narrative", Pamela Geller, president of the American Freedom Defense Initiative, told WND.
