Two people were hurt after a small plane crashed on a motorway near an airport close to Los Angeles in southern California. The freeway also was closed in both directions until the northbound side reopened around 10 a.m.

The pilot and passenger- a man and a woman - were pulled from the fiery wreckage and taken to a hospital with "traumatic injuries", Orange County Fire Capt. Larry Kurtz told CBS. He did say the victims were both in their 60s and were showing vital signs when they were taken out of the plane. No one on the ground was injured, and damage to the clipped vehicle was minimal.

John Wayne Airport, which is located in Orange County, confirmed that the plane was Cessna 310 aircraft and that the airport was temporarily closed to arrivals.
