Trump Calls Out Chicago Crime 'Epidemic' Ahead Of New Task Force Announcement

Trump says he is sending federal help to quell Chicago violence

The tweet came ahead of a press conference announcing a new "Strike Force" - a collaboration between the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives bureau and the Chicago Police Department.

Chicago Police officials say the strike force will be a specialized team of city cops, federal agents and IL state troopers who will work exclusively on stemming the flow of illegally possessed guns and targeting repeat gun offenders. And police, federal agents and prosecutors will reportedly target repeat gun offenders and illegal firearms.

Breitbart News reported that Chicago had almost 4,400 shootings and almost 800 homicides in 2016. Trump wrote on Twitter.

If Chicago doesn't fix the disgusting "carnage" going on, 228 shootings in 2017 with 42 killings (up 24% from 2016), I will send in the Feds! "I will send in the Feds", he tweeted four days after his inauguration. Earlier in January, he posted, "If Mayor can't do it he must ask for Federal help!"

Police Say Venus Williams At Fault In Fatal Car Crash
Police said that there's no evidence that Williams, 37, was distracted by a cellphone at the time of the accident. According to a police report obtained by the news site, the accident occurred on June 9.

Trump has repeatedly criticized violence in Chicago, asking at a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on June 21: "Look at Chicago".

"Six months ago we made it clear that we would welcome additional federal support, and six months later we appreciate the 20 new ATF agents that are now arriving", Adam Collins, a spokesman for Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, said. "With these new resources, she will help us make Chicago safe again".

CNN also reported in April that a small team of eight Federal Bureau of Investigation employees, including agents and analysts, from across the country were sent to Chicago on a temporary assignment. They spent a few weeks in Chicago to help combat violent crime and then returned to their regular field offices before the end of May.

"We're sending in additional gun investigators".

US military probing reports of strike on IS jail
The Pentagon says the US has seen chemical weapons activity at a Syrian air base that was used for an April sarin gas attack. In a news bulletin flashed on screen, it said the building had been used as a prison for a "large number of civilians".

Sessions also said Chicago should stop being a sanctuary city, adding "it is critical, critical for the people of Chicago. that we begin to. deport violent criminals who've been convicted".

According to the Chicago Tribune, that number is actually 1,760, but is lower than it was at this time past year.

America's gun homicide rate is more than 25 times the average of other developed countries, according to data collected over five years by gun safety organization Everytown.

Sanctuary cities lawsuit heads to court Monday
Although buoyed by that decision, lawyers for the plaintiffs in the new case say the issues involving the Texas law are broader. A handful of Texas cities - including Austin - are now suing the state, saying the law promotes discrimination.
