US Open R16 Preview: Four Slam champions on Super Sunday

2017 US Open Tennis Championships- Day 7

Today, the comeback artists hijacked the narrative.

Still, the five-time major champion could not quite keep her Grand Slam comeback from a doping suspension going, losing in the fourth round of the U.S. Open to 16th-seeded Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 on Sunday.

That will be his first time in this tournament he won't face a qualifier.

Next on the schedule for Sharapova is the WTA event in Beijing at the end of September as she attempts to build her ranking to ensure direct entry into the 2018 Australian Open.

This result has surprised Stephens, who missed Flushing Meadows past year nursing a foot injury. "But, yeah, I mean, reflecting back on the week, I can be happy". Just competing, you know, being in that competitive environment", Sharapova said, "that's what I missed. "I think there's only a way to show it on the court, because that's what really matters to me".

Gene Therapy Cancer Treatment Given Federal Approval
The treatment, called Kymriah , aims to give some patients a second chance after first-line drugs have failed. Shares of Bluebird Bio Inc, which is developing a promising CAR-T treatment, were up 11.1 percent at $113.73.

She added: 'I think I allowed the match to become physical. "I definitely took a few steps back a little bit and gave her the time to dictate play and get more balls back". It was the 19-year-old's first top-10 scalp and is likely to hasten his ascent on the world stage.

"For sure from a year ago, I only have great memories here", she said. "I'm a pretty big competitor".

The daughter of an English teacher is fluent in shifting speeds, while Sharapova speaks primarily raw power.

Sharapova took a medical time-out to have treatment for what appeared to be a blister on her finger and immediately retrieved one of the breaks, Sevastova suddenly looking very tight.

She had played just one match since May heading to Flushing Meadows after injury wrecked her grass-court season.

Sharapova advances again at US Open
Svitolina breezed through the first set before posting a 6-0, 6-7 (5), 6-3 victory over Siniakova, the world's 42nd-ranked player. After the final point, Sharapova dropped to her knees as a replay appeal showed what she already knew.

Sharapova, the world number 146, had needed a wild card into the tournament, where she was champion in 2006.

Sevastova proved too strong, however, the 5ft 5in Latvian's defensive skills and ability to create angles ultimately derailing the Russian. While unseeded, the American has been red-hot since returning from a foot injury and will be a tough out.

Sharapova has had to battle in all her matches and it was no surprise to see her run out of steam, hitting 51 unforced errors, as Sevastova clinched victory after two hours and 16 minutes. She broke serve in the third game, stood her ground when Sharapova threatened to break back in the eighth and levelled the match with two successive service winners at 5-4.

Having reached his first Grand Slam quarter-final at this summer's French Open, Carreno Busta has been thrust into the limelight here in the absence of some more illustrious names. Sharapova threw all that she had at her counterpart.

Pablo Carreno Busta, of Spain, celebrates after winning his match against Denis Shapovalov, of Canada, during the fourth round of the U.S. Open tennis tournament, Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, in NY.

Arsenal turn down Man City bid for Sanchez
England forward Sterling, 22, has featured in all three of City's games so far this season. No formal approach has been made for Sanchez - though that is expected to happen soon.

The five-time grand slam champion was making her first major appearance since the 2016 Australian Open, having tested positive for a banned substance at Melbourne Park a year ago.
