South Koreans brace for possible test on North Korea's public holiday

Vladimir Putin criticises US sanctions as he says President Trump is 'not my bride'

He pointed to the Iran nuclear deal, which was negotiated successfully by the Obama administration but has looked fragile under Trump, saying "if the USA had spent even one fifth of the time and effort on the North Korean issue compared with the Iranian case, then the North Korean nuclear issue could have been resolved".

He took the time to share his hopes that Russian Federation and the United States will find compromises and resolve bilateral and worldwide problems, just as Trump has said. "Let us see how the situation develops", he said.

Moon may well be quietly admiring of Putin for saying things upfront about North Korea which he is unable to do himself. The key to this process is held by Russian Federation and China, which are permanent members of the Security Council and have the right of veto.

Diplomats have said the Security Council could consider banning North Korean textile exports, banishing its national airline and stopping supplies of oil to the government and military.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) said it had been conducting tests on land, air and water samples since shortly after the North Korean nuclear test on Sunday.

A military strike would signal "a very sad day for North Korea", he said. By comparison, China provides it with about 520,000 tonnes of crude a year, according to industry sources.

US House passes bill for self-driving cars
Meanwhile, the states will handle matters like inspections, insurance and liability. The House bill exempts a limited number of self-driving cars from federal rules.

"For Russia and China, the North Korea nuclear program is an indirect threat".

Former Japanese defence minister Shigeru Ishiba stoked controversy on Wednesday by questioning whether Japan can expect protection under the U.S. nuclear umbrella while maintaining its non-nuclear principles. China and Russian Federation have been calling for talks, saying sanctions aren't working against North Korea.

The comments came just hours before the U.S. made a formal request for a UN Security Council vote on tough new sanctions against the repressive regime. It said Monday that Trump "provided his conceptual approval for the purchase of many billions of dollars' worth of military weapons and equipment from the United States by South Korea". It came just days after its largest nuclear test and as USA president Donald Trump again highlighted the possibility of military action.

South Korea and the United States are technically still at war with North Korea after the 1950-53 Korean conflict ended with a truce, not a peace treaty.

Moscow agreed to join in US -proposed sanctions against North Korea in August, but Putin now sees those sanctions as "useless".

After his call with Mattis, Onodera met Adm. Scott Swift, the commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, at the Japanese Defense Ministry to confirm their cooperation in responding to security issues.

Facebook says Russian accounts bought United States political ads
There have been claims that there was indeed a collusion between Moscow and the heated up campaign of President Donald Trump. Facebook has turned over the data to special counsel Robert Mueller, who is now running the investigation on the hacking.

Two THAAD batteries have already been installed.

Chinese authorities lodged a formal complaint Wednesday with Seoul's ambassador to China, Kim Jang-soo, and on Thursday Beijing's Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling on Seoul and Washington to call off the THAAD deployment.

In Washington, President Donald Trump reiterated Thursday that military action is "certainly" an option against North Korea, as his administration tentatively concurred with the pariah nation's claim to have tested a hydrogen bomb.

Yet, the growing North Korean threat could stifle some of the opposition, experts say.

"We estimate this was far bigger than previous nuclear tests", Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera told reporters.

North Korea fired the ICBMs at highly lofted angles in July to reduce ranges and avoid other countries.
